In 2012, the SMDP community welcomed me as the new director, taking over the reins from the founder, my mother, Mrs.Florence Laast.
Over the last five and a half years, I have had a very busy but wonderful time working with the academic and support staff, board members, parents, students ,and friends of SMDP school with one goal in mind. Promoting the education, grooming and well-being of all our students.
With that goal in mind, we have improved our physical facilities to enhance our learning process. As promised, we resurfaced the parking areas, thus cutting down dust in our breathing environment. We have installed solar panels to help reduce the cost of energy needed to run the school equipment. We have installed a new kindergarten playground, improved our restroom facilities, added an electronic message board outside the administration building, updated the school library and put up the new Gonzaga and William School blocks.
We have worked in many ways to improve the lives of our teachers and non-teaching staff, including making sure their voices are heard in partnership. Our most important task, is maintaining the academic excellence our students are known for (100% pass on the National test - BECE since the school was established) and we intend to keep supporting our students and staff to ensure SMDP students are in the top competitive 5% of schools in Accra.
We open our arms to welcome well-wishers and alumni who want to help us as we plan the next 5 years looking to improve the "Domestic/Hospitality"Home Science units of our school, refurbish the Science labs, and plan for our new campus in the Botianor area.
It is hoped that a few years from now, we will have yet another occasion to celebrate the completion of the next set of goals.
Our director would like to share some news with you!
